Kenya Defence Force (KDF) soldiers
have prevented a major al-Shabaab assault on their camp. The terror militants
had attempted to lay siege on the KDF camp located in Baardhere, Lower Shabelle
region of Somalia. the militants were heavily armed when they raided the KDF
camp.
KDF
soldiers engaged in a fierce gunfight with the militants before they escaped. No
casualties were reported during the fierce fighting. According to reports, the
incident occurred on Wednesday, April 26, at dawn.
The deadly terror group al-Shabaab,
emerged in 2006 from the now-defunct Islamic Courts Union, which once
controlled Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu. The militant group launched its own
insurgency on major Somali cities in 2009, taking control of Mogadishu and
southern Somalia, before being removed by allied forces.
The group still controls pockets of
territories in Southern and Central Somalia
