Ford Kenya’s deputy leader Boni
Khalwale heaped praises on President Uhuru Kenyatta on national TV on Thursday,
May 4. While part of a panel on party nominations in a TV interview, the
Kakamega Senator Khalwale praised Uhuru on how he handled the Jubilee nominations.
“The most important thing for me is to congratulate President Uhuru. He has
demonstrated leadership by not being seen interfering with the outcome of the
nominations.
Knowing what Kabogo did for Uhuru
when he was shortchanging Mudavadi, what Mbarire and Jamleck Kamau did for
Uhuru yet Uhuru has not interfered with the outcome, he might finally becoming
democratic after all. I really would like to congratulate him for that,"
said Khalwale. Since the end of the party nominations, disputes have solely
been handled by the party’s appeals tribunal, and so far, 107 out of 500 cases
filed by dissatisfied aspirants were solved. Khalwale’s praises are a far cry
to what might be said of the NASA allied party ,ODM ,nominations in which
several politicians were controversially awarded nomination certificates.
Top on the list are the
controversial wins by Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo, Taita Taveta Governor John
Mruttu and Migori Governor Okoth Obado. In Nyongo’s case, he’s been awarded the
nomination certificate but the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal ruled against
his win, saying the election was marred with irregularities. His opponent, Jack
Ranguma was also declared the winner in the same election. Mruttu was the first
ODM governor to lose the nominations to a member of parliament but ODM ordered
a repeat nomination exercise without preamble.
