Police in Mombasa have released
names and photos of members of a deadly criminal gang that has been terrorising
residents in the city. has the gang, which comprises about 16 members, is armed
with crude weapons and firearms. According to Barraka FM, Bobocha, is the most
dangerous of all the members in the gang. The gang has been accused of engaging
in robberies with violence at Old Town Estate, which is a tourist hub.
One of the members, Khalifa Mohammed
Ahmed, has surprised Police by turning himself in just hours after the poster
was released. He claims he’s not a criminal and that it’s mistaken identity. He
was accompanied by his mother and lawyer to Urban Police station. Urban DCI
boss Jacob Kanake confirmed the suspected had pending cases just like the other
16 members. Mohammed, however, insists that he’s a computer student and that he
received the shocking news on Wednesday May 3, 2017 when one of his friends
called him and told him his photo was in the list of most wanted criminals.
“On Thursday morning I went to
college, everyone was staring at me. My college-mates had distanced themselves
from me saying I was a dangerous criminal. I had to go back home as the
condition was unbearable,”said Mohammed. Kanake denied all that stating that
Mohammed is a member of the gang. “He belongs to dreaded criminal gang of
Wakali Wao together with others whose photos are circulating,this one who had
surrendered to us had two cases in court,”said Kanake.
Further details indicate that Mohammed was
seen in a photo with others donning in police and KDF uniforms armed with
machetes. It is not known where the pictures were taken but it appears to be in
a forest. Kanake said the suspect will be interrogated for more information and
called on the others to surrender be the police get to them.
