Deputy President William Ruto has
been roped in a new controversy which has hit the just concluded Jubilee
primaries. Reports have been rife that incumbent leaders from Mt Kenya region
who lost in the exercise are planning to bring down Ruto's ambitions of
becoming president in 2022. There were allegations that a meeting took place
between losers from President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard on Sunday April 30 with
an intent to plan Ruto's down fall. The meeting was allegedly chaired by Kiambu
Governor William Kabogo.
Kabogo blamed his loss on an unnamed
top Jubilee figure which left many speculating he was referring to Ruto. But
Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru who is among those who lost denied there was
such a plan. Waweru who is the chairman of the Mt Kenya Parliamentary Caucus
said he cannot call for such a meeting.
"Let me state here that these
reports are completely untrue, unfounded and based on pure malice," said
the MP during a press conference on Tuesday May 2. He added that he is a
staunch supporter of the DP and he respects him such that he cannot plan such a
meeting to back stab him
Waweru says he enjoys a cordial
relationship with Ruto and that such reports is part of propaganda from the
Opposition meant to divide Jubilee.
