Uhuru's Plan To Fish Votes From Raila's Nyanza Revealed

As the August 8 general elections approach, President Uhuru Kenyatta is planning for everything and leaving nothing to chance in his reelection bid.

The Head of State has sent top government and Jubilee officials to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard to solicit votes for the ruling regime.

The delegation is led by the newly appointed Jubilee Party secretary-general Raphael Tuju.

The former Rarieda MP is also now Uhuru's point man in Nyanza region after former TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo defected to ODM.

Tuju told The Standard that his goal is to ‘change the perception’ of Nyanza residents so that they can accept Jubilee administration ahead of the forthcoming polls.

He said his team will only engage in issue-based politics to transform the lives of the people in the region.

“We will rise above interests and work closely with the county authorities to initiate and implement development projects. I will not engage in politics of witch-hunting,” Tuju told The Standard on Saturday.

The JP Secretary General added: “I will bring Cabinet Secretaries here to see the problems facing the people and come up with remedies.”

Tuju also said the officials will fight claims by some leaders from the region that President Uhuru had abandoned the region and neglected the residents.

The delegation announced a government plan to employ youths to remove water hyacinth from Lake Victoria.

Youth and Public Service PS Lillian Omollo pointed out that the largest National Youth Service (NYS) group is in Kisumu where 5,000 youth are earning a daily wage of Sh331 and making daily savings of Sh141 every day for the last one year.

Tuju appealed to Nyanza residents to support the government of the day if they wanted to get development projects.
