An Orange Democratic Movement Member
of Parliament aspirant has sworn to defect from the party after he was beaten
by a woman representative in the Likoni constituency primaries. Hamisi Domoko
was beaten by a slight margin by Mombasa Woman Representative Mishi Mboko when
he garnered 3,294 votes against her 5,935 votes. According to Domoko, the image
of ODM was damaged, claiming the nominations had not been fairly conducted. He
accused Mboko and her team of rigging the election.
"The rigging today has damaged
the image of ODM Party. I will not accept these results at all because we
witnessed all tactics being done to ensure I am defeated. I have 24 hours from
now and I will think of going as an independent candidate because one thing I
am sure about is that I must be on the ballot," said Domoko as quoted in
the Daily Nation on Sunday, April 23.
However, Mboko dismisses Domoko’s
claims, saying he only sensed defeat and was looking for someone to blame. “I
am honored by the results. The race gave me an opportunity to gauge myself
ahead of the August 8 polls. I thank God we managed to conduct our nominations
here in Likoni peacefully. I know it was not an easy journey but finally, I
have seen the results of my seat,” said Mboko.
