With only three months left to the August polls, Mombasa Governor
Hassan Joho is not leaving anything to chance in the wake of a looming
political battle as the race for Mombasa governor takes shape.
Joho,
who will face off with three others in a titanic battle is now
assembling a political team that can give a political punch in the
August contest.
With the fiery politician
expected to be incorporated into Raila Odinga's campaign team should he
be named NASA flag bearer, a team has been set up to carry out his own
campaigns.
Speaking during a rally in Frere
Town last month, Joho said he will not spend a lot of time campaigning
in the county, as he will be focusing on Raila's campaigns.
“We
will go to every corner of this country telling people why they should
vote out Jubilee. You, my supporters, will take charge here in Mombasa. I
don’t need to campaign here,” he said.
Kisauni
MP Rashid Bedzimba, Joho's right-hand man, is one of those who is
expected to lead the Governor's campaign team as he is already a key ODM
politician figure on the ground.
After
clinching the Likoni ODM ticket, outspoken Women Representative Mishi
Mboko who is known for her good mobilization skills is another big-name
that is expected to support the ODM deputy party leader's political
maneuvers.
Others include Mvita lawmaker
Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir, another Joho confidante, and Jomvu MP Badi
Twalib who recently joined ODM after ditching Wiper.
The
youthful Said Abdallah, Joho's cousin, who controversially clinched the
ODM Nyali MP ticket after edging out former journalist Mohamed Ali is
expected to mobilize the youth vote bloc.
Bringing
a rich sporting background, Changamwe MP aspirant Goshi Ally who is in a
neck-and-neck contest in the race for the ODM ticket has also been
brought on board.
Already, Jubilee's candidate Suleiman Shahbal has exuded confidence that he will floor the incumbent.
